I was sad to learn that legendary developer Trammel Crow died on January 14th at the age of 94.
He was a true inspiration to many of us in this business. Always an innovator, a real class act in many ways. I followed his career like a kid would track the progress of a baseball player, stat by stat, season by season.
If you have ever admired the atrium of a hotel, shopping mall, or office complex built after World War II you are likely seeing the influence of Crow on real estate development. His theoretical approach to commercial property management, essentially creating a hybrid between traditional warehouse lending and almost hotel-like short term leasing, was so creative it made him a billionaire.
His career is worth studying.
